Last summer we finally tackled our Bay Area backyard remodel, turning a patchy lawn and cracked concrete into a serene hangout with native plants, a decomposed granite path, and a small redwood deck for evening meals. The whole process took about four months, and the biggest win was adding a drought-tolerant garden that attracts hummingbirds—plus saving on water bills. It’s not perfect, but it feels like us now.
